PROVIDENCE – Citizens Bank and television station WJAR-TV NBC 10 are partnering for a contest to give a winning Rhode Island nonprofit $35,000 and free media exposure.
The contest is limited to relatively small nonprofits – those with total operating budgets of $5 million or less.

The Champions in Action program will judge nonprofits on “inclusion and equality,” defined as what they do to ensure that individuals are able to participate fully in the economic and social life of their communities.
That means “addressing the factors that contribute to discrimination and inequality and ensuring all perspectives and diverse viewpoints are heard and contribute to innovation and success,” the bank said.
The winner will be announced in January. Rhode Island nonprofits are invited to apply online at www.citizensbank.com/community/champions-in-action.aspx. Applications must be submitted by 5 p.m. on Aug. 16.
The winner will receive $35,000 in unrestricted funds from Citizens Bank; media coverage from NBC 10, including public service announcements and television profiles, volunteer support from Citizens staff, promotional support in Citizens branches and exposure on the Citizens and NBC 10 websites.
To be eligible, nonprofits must be based in Rhode Island, with services in Rhode Island that address the designated social concern – inclusion and equality. Nonprofits also must provide verification of their tax-exempt status under Section 501(c)3 of the Internal Revenue Service code.
