PROVIDENCE – Berkshire Bank recently announced it will finance $2.95 million in tax credits to help revitalize the iconic United Theatre in Westerly.
The tax credits come through the National Parks Service and Internal Revenue Service’s Historic Tax Credit program, which helps pay to rehabilitate historic buildings with credits equal to 20% of the project cost.

The credits through Berkshire Bank will help renovate the United Theatre, which has offered community entertainment and programming since 1926, according to a news release.
Per the terms of the federal program, the tax credits can be used beginning the year the project is completed.
