PROVIDENCE – In honor of Cervical Cancer Awareness Month, Planned Parenthood of Southern New England is underscoring its support of the Rhode Island Women’s Cancer Screening Program.
Created by the Partnership to Reduce Cancer in Rhode Island, the program offers free cervical and breast cancer screenings to women aged 21 to 64 who meet certain requirements.

To be eligible, patients must be either uninsured or underinsured, with an income of less than 250% of the federal poverty level and be a Rhode Island resident, regardless of immigration status.
The program offers assistance through Medicaid for the treatment of breast and cervical cancer.

“A cervical cancer screening – or a ‘pap smear’ – is a quick and painless way to ensure you live a longer and healthier life. Anyone with a cervix can develop cervical cancer. That is why regular screenings are essential for staying healthy,” said Kristina Lambert, a family nurse practitioner and clinician at Planned Parenthood’s Providence health center. “Our doors are open to everyone. No one should have to die from this preventable and treatable disease.”
