WESTERLY – Westerly Community Credit Union has awarded 19 teacher grants totaling more than $9,000 for the 2024-2025 school year, the credit union recently announced.
The credit union has awarded grants of up to $500 to teachers from school districts in Coventry, Exeter-West Greenwich, Narragansett, South Kingstown, Westerly and Stonington, Conn. To date, the credit union has awarded more than $72,000 in teacher grants, according to a news release.

The following teachers received grants:
- Kelly Kramer, Emilie Cunningham-Joost, Kristen Deschene, Anthony Costa and Esther Wolk of the Coventry School District.
- Christine Conley of the Exeter-West Greenwich School District.
- Jessica DeRemer, Krystal Uricchio, Jennifer Loiselle, and Melissa O’Neil and Sarah Dully, who together received one grant, of the Narragansett School District.
- Paula Rekos, Ryan Muir, Jonathan Sigman and Amber Horton Lambert of the South Kingstown School District.
- Alexis Moniz, Rosamaria Burger, Marika Heughins and Kirsten Anderson of the Stonington School District in Connecticut.
- Chris Haase of the Westerly School District.
“We’re incredibly fortunate to have such dedicated educators in our community,” Steve White, Westerly Community Credit Union CEO and president, said in a statement. “Our Teacher Grant program is a testament to our ongoing commitment to supporting their innovative ideas and fostering a brighter future for our students.”
WCCU teacher grants are awarded annually to support creative and experiential educational projects or programs in local school districts, according to the release. Special consideration is given to innovative projects that strengthen the relationship between schools and the community at large, and to projects that support student excellence, the credit union said.
Applications are judged on educational focus, promotion of skills/excellence, creativity/innovation, community connection, and goal clarity/attainability. Applications for the 2025-2026 school year will be available in July, with an Oct. 31 submission deadline.
