According to the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics, the West recorded the highest regional rate at 10.3 percent and was the only region to experience statistically significant month-over-month rate change, down 0.1 percentage point.

All four regions, however, had notable decreases in the May rate when compared to a year earlier: Midwest, down 1.5 percentage points, Northeast, down 0.8 percentage points, West, down 0.7 percentage points, and the South, down 0.5 percentage points.
Rhode Island’s rate, at 10.9 percent, was unchanged in May when compared to April. The national unemployment rate was lower, down 0.5 percentage, at 9.1 percent.
