Chafee to Flanders: Move quickly on C.F. fiscal fixes

PROVIDENCE – Gov. Lincoln D. Chafee last week authorized the court-appointed receiver for Central Falls, retired Supreme Court Justice Robert G. Flanders Jr., to “expedite available options that will protect the stability of critical city services.”
Additionally, he warned that Central Falls is “running out of time” to stabilize its financial cash position.
“Recent reports I have received from Justice Flanders indicate that we do not have the luxury of time to correct the chronic and longstanding financial challenges in Central Falls,” Chafee said in a statement.
Flanders and State Director of Revenue Rosemary Booth Gallogly will work closely with Chief of Municipal Finance Susanne Greschner, as they continue to monitor the progress, bringing their findings to Chafee, who will weigh options.
Additionally, according to the statement, Flanders has hired Municipal Management Solutions, a Rhode Island-based company, to assist him in implementing emergency fiscal-management and oversight services, including human resources management, union-contract management and the disposition of surplus assets and equipment. &#8226
