Smithfield dedicates two Confucius Classrooms

SMITHFIELD – The Smithfield School Department and the Confucius Institute at Bryant University last month dedicated the nation’s first “Confucius Classrooms,” which will help students, teachers and the public learn about Chinese language and culture.
The classrooms – one at Smithfield High School and the other at William Winsor Elementary School – were financed through a $500,000 grant from China’s Office of Chinese Language Council International, known as Hanban.
Because the Smithfield-Confucius Institute program is the first of its kind, Hanban said it hopes the partnership will serve as a global model for the more than 300 Confucius Institutes around the world. &#8226
