Charlestown wind project abandoned

The company behind a proposed small wind farm in Charlestown has abandoned the project after one of its owners died, The Westerly Sun reported last week.
The town had granted William Green and his partner, Jack Johannemann, permission to erect a 197-foot test tower on a piece of property owned by John M. Rosa IV. The two said they intended to place as many as four turbines on the 33-acre property.
But Green died a few months ago and the family decided not to pursue the farm, Assistant Town Solicitor Robert Craven told the Westerly Zoning Board.
“They have no intention of pursuing this,” Craven said.
The Sun reported that the board heard the case after a judge ordered it to reconsider its unanimous decision allowing the test tower. A neighboring golf course has opposed the tower and filed suit, saying the approval was granted without following the proper procedure.
The board officially vacated its decision, putting the matter to rest.
