TIVERTON – Construction has started on the long-planned Sandywoods Farm project, a mixed-use and environmentally friendly project in Tiverton.
Developer Church Community Housing Corporation broke ground on June 29. The project will include 50 rental cottages and 24 single-family homes. The rental cottages and 30 percent of the rest of the project will be powered by a wind turbine.
In January, Rhode Island Housing had announced a $15 million financing package for the award-winning project. Donald Powers Architects designed it.
“This carefully planned development will be an attractive place to call home,” CCHC Executive Director Stephen Ostiguy said in a statement. “Complementing the existing rural character of Tiverton, Sandywoods will draw on the strong agriculture and arts presence that is a vibrant part of the greater Tiverton community. Already recognized nationally for its design, we are confident Sandywoods Farm will serve as a great resource for Tiverton and its residents and serve as a model community for years to come.”
Church Community Housing Corporation, based in Newport, is a nonprofit housing developer founded in 1969. It has built more than 1,000 homes and repaired more than 2,000 others. For additional information, visit www.cchcnewport.org.
