State forms Medicaid waiver task force

PROVIDENCE – The Executive Office of Health and Human Services (EOHHS) has created a task force to provide public input on changes to the Medicaid program expected under the state’s Global Consumer Choice Compact Waiver.

David Burnett, EOHHS associate director of governmental and public affairs, today told Providence Business News the task force has 63 members from a wide range of consumer groups and their representatives that provide services to Medicaid beneficiaries.

Bills in the General Assembly call for a minimum of 45 members on the task force. The group was formed before the expected passage of enabling legislation “because we wanted to get the stakeholders together,” he said, so they would be ready to get started as soon possible.

The task force will work closely with EOHHS and health and human services agencies to ensure changes to the Medicaid program match the goals of the Global Waiver and ensure access, quality and cost-effectiveness, according to an EOHHS news release. The Global Waiver establishes a first in the nation, federal-state compact that provides the state with greater flexibility in the Medicaid program to provide services.

The waiver is effective through Dec. 31, 2013.

The first meeting of the task force will be held on May 12 from 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. in the Arnold Conference Center, Regan Building, Eleanor Slater Hospital, John O. Pastore Center, in Cranston.

Task force meetings will be held on a monthly basis and will be open to the public.
