Bryant seminar to focus on ‘green’ building

PROVIDENCE – A seminar slated to be held at Bryant University next week will feature housing professionals and panelists discussing the intricacies and differences between the rating systems used in the design, construction and verification of a “green” house.
The Rhode Island Builders Association and the Rhode Island chapter of the U.S. Green Building Council will host “Going Green: Residential Building in Rhode Island” next Thursday, Feb. 26.
“Adding a little extra insulation in the attic doesn’t make a house ‘green,’ ” RIBA Executive Director Roger Warren said in a statement announcing the seminar. “While energy efficiency is at the core of green building, there is much more that goes into the process. Everything from the individual-site design, resource efficiency, indoor air quality and overall global impact are taken into consideration.”
The event will be moderated by Daniel Paquette, chairman of the RIBA Green Building Committee, and will feature panelists from South County Post and Beam, Conservations Services Group, MEJJ Development and others. They will discuss green regulations from Energy Star, U.S. Green Building Council’s Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design for Homes and the National Green Building Standard, recently approved by the American National Standards Institute.
The two-hour seminar starts at 4 p.m. at the Bryant University Bello Center in Smithfield. Tickets are $30.
