PROVIDENCE – House Speaker William J. Murphy announced that Fausto C. Anguilla has been hired to serve as the director of House policy, effective Feb. 2.
Anguilla, a Bristol resident, served as a member of the House from 2001 to 2006, when he decided not to seek re-election. Murphy said in a statement that Anguilla played a major role in the enactment of Separation of Powers legislation in 2003, and was an active member of the House Judiciary, Separation of Powers and Rules committees.
“In the post-Separation of Powers world, the House will be more heavily involved in the oversight of state government,” Murphy said. “Fausto Anguilla will provide an extremely professional level of expertise … to assist our House members in carrying out these new duties.”
In addition to oversight and directing the policy staff, Murphy said Anguilla will also be assigned to assist House members serving on the newly created study commission looking into development of port facilities in Rhode Island.
Anguilla is a graduate of Georgetown University and received his J.D. from the Georgetown University Law Center. He has been an attorney in private practice since 1988.
Anguilla is replacing Gary Ciminero, who retired on Jan. 9, after serving as the House economist and acting director of policy. •
