SWAP breaks ground on Providence development

PROVIDENCE – Stop Wasting Abandoned Property Inc. this month broke ground on a new six-home development in lower South Providence funded in part by the City of Providence, Rhode Island Housing and the R.I. Housing Resources Commission.
The three-bedroom homes in the Dayton Court development will be marketed to families with annual incomes less than $61,000 a year. There will be two duplexes and two free-standing homes. Construction is expected to be completed in summer 2009.
The City of Providence provided $200,000, Rhode Island Housing $150,000 and the Housing Resource Commission’s Building Homes Rhode Island program $241,500 to help with the development.
“During these challenging economic times, we have to work harder than ever before to ensure that families have access to safe, affordable homes,” Mayor David N. Cicilline said in a statement. “SWAP and Rhode Island Housing continue to be strong partners in our efforts to fuel our economy while providing hope and opportunity for the families in our neighborhoods.”
