PROVIDENCE – The R.I. Department of Health last week said that effective Jan. 1, the state’s e-licensing process will go completely paperless, with no more wallet license cards to be issued and the department’s Web site to serve as the official means to verify any individual’s license status.
When health care and food management professionals are first licensed, they will receive a notification with their license number, expiration date and information about how to use the license Web site. Professionals who currently get wall certificates upon initial licensure will continue to get them, officials said.
The department licenses about 80,000 professionals, and 92 percent of licensees already renew their licenses online. As part of this paperless process, the department certifies that it maintains information for use with the license verification function on its Web site, updates the site in real time and considers it to be a secure, primary source for licensure verification.
