Aquidneck Island Planning Commission opens Blue Trail

PORTSMOUTH – U.S. Sen. Jack Reed and U.S. Sen. Sheldon Whitehouse on Monday will be on hand to officially open the Aquidneck Island Planning Commission’s Blue Trail, an eight-launch-site public access network for Narragansett Bay.
The launch sites will be for “paddlers all over Rhode Island,” according to the commission.

The opening of the water trail is the first project to be opened as part of the commission’s West Side Master Plan. That plan also includes redevelopment guidelines for transportation, economic development, utilities planning and recreation on Aquidneck Island.
The opening, which will also be attended by U.S. Rep. Patrick Kennedy, Rhode Island Coastal Resource Management Council Chairman Michael Tikoian and other state leaders, will take place at the Weaver Cove Boat Launch at 10 a.m.
