
PROVIDENCE – “As Rhode Island drivers prepare to head out for their Fourth of July vacations, they are finding gasoline prices high but relatively stable,” AAA Southeastern New England said today in its weekly fuel-price report.
AAA’s June 30 survey found the average self-service price for regular unleaded gasoline in the Ocean State was $4.099 per gallon, unchanged from a week ago (READ MORE) and a penny below June 16’s record high, but still 96 cents above the price at the beginning of the year. At this time last year, the average local price was $2.929.
Nationwide, the price of self-serve regular rose 1 cent to a U.S. average of $4.08 per gallon. And in Massachusetts, the price of unleaded regular was unchanged for the third consecutive week at $4.069 per gallon, or $1.01 more than at the beginning of the year.
Meanwhile, the self-serve price of diesel at Rhode Island stations dipped 1 cent per gallon, to $4.919, its second consecutive decline. Diesel prices locally peaked at $4.939 in the June 9 and 16 surveys.
The range in prices for self-serve regular unleaded at local stations widened to 30 cents, from a low of $3.999 to a high of $4.299. Similar ranges were seen for other grades of gasoline, which had average self-serve prices of $4.229 for midgrade unleaded (down 1 cent from last week’s survey) and $4.339 for premium (also down 1 cent), AAA found.
