PROVIDENCE – Legislative leaders last week introduced a bill aimed at creating a cooperative work force-development effort between the Community College of Rhode Island and the R.I. Economic Development Corporation.
Introduced by Sen. Majority Leader M. Teresa Paiva Weed (D-Newport) and House Majority Leader Gordon D. Fox (D-Providence), the bill would create the CCRI 21st Century Workforce Commission. As proposed in the legislation, 2008-S 2450 and 2008-H 7889, the commission will recommend specific actions to strengthen CCRI’s position as “a key institution in Rhode Island’s effort to create a 21st-century work force prepared for the high-wage job opportunities created by knowledge economy companies,” Paiva Weed and Fox said in a joint news release. •
