PROVIDENCE – After rising for two consecutive weeks, the average price of gasoline in Rhode Island has dropped by 2 cents over the past week, according to AAA Southern New England.
AAA’s Jan. 14 survey of local stations found the average self-serve price for regular unleaded was $3.119 per gallon, 2 cents less than in the Jan. 7 survey. The price is still 76 cents above the year-ago average of $2.359.
Nationwide this week, the average self-service price for unleaded regular increased 1 cent per gallon to match the Rhode Island average of $3.119.
The range in prices for self-service regular at local stations was 21 cents, from a low of $2.999 to a high of $3.209, the nonprofit auto club found. Wider ranges were seen for other grades of fuel, which had average self-serve prices this week of $3.249 for midgrade unleaded, $3.359 for premium unleaded and $3.589 for diesel.
