Lime Rock fire chief named state marshal

PROVIDENCE – Gov. Donald L. Carcieri has named Frank M. Sylvester, chief of the Lime Rock Fire District in Lincoln, as the state’s new fire marshal.
Subject to the approval of the state Senate, Sylvester would replace George S. Farrell, who resigned last spring to become chief of the Providence Fire Department. State Police Supt. Brendan Doherty has served as interim fire marshal.
Sylvester retired from the Pawtucket Fire Department in 1988, when he joined the Lime Rock Fire District as chief. A graduate of Roger Williams University, with a B.S. in administration, he served a two-year stint with the U.S. Army and followed that with 18 years with the U.S. Coast Guard Reserve. •
