The R.I. Economic Development Corporation has announced that Geoff Grout, the CEO of the Quonset Development Corporation, has departed. His duties will be assumed by COO Steven J. King.
“Geoff Grout is a great real estate professional,” said RIEDC executive director Saul Kaplan, who is also the chairman of the QDC board of directors. “He made an important contribution to the growth of QDC during his service and I appreciate his work. To position the business park for accelerated growth and job creation — something we all agree is vitally important to the state’s economic prosperity – we need to strengthen QDC’s relationships with key stakeholders. Stronger relationships with the town of North Kingstown, the RIEDC, other state agencies, and the General Assembly will be critical to QDC’s success in its next stage of development and central to our ability to fully leverage the park as a tool for economic growth.”
The QDC has come under fire for some proposed developments in the Quonset Business Park, specifically what is known at the Gateway, where GDC developer New Boston Development Partners LLC put forward a plan for a mixed-use project with office, hotel and retail components that included big-box retailers Lowe’s Home Improvement and Kohl’s. Local officials protested and legislators brought the issue to the General Assembly earlier in the year.
The Quonset Development Corporation (QDC) is a special-purpose subsidiary of the R.I. Economic Development Corporation, responsible for the development and management of the 3000-plus acre Quonset Business Park. Today the park is home to more than 150 businesses employing more than 8,000 workers. For more information go to www.qdcri.com.
