Cicilline elected VP of Democratic mayors’ alliance

PROVIDENCE – Mayor David N. Cicilline today announced he has been elected vice president of the National Conference of Democratic Mayors.
The mayor’s office said he was nominated by Dannel P. Malloy, the mayor of Stamford, Conn., who cited his work to reform Providence’s municipal government.
“I am deeply honored,” Cicilline said.
“At this time … with new leadership in Congress, the NDCM is poised to play a pivotal role in advocating for and supporting an urban agenda,” he added. “I am looking forward to working closely with our nation’s mayors and Congressional leaders … to articulate a vision and policies that strengthen our neighborhoods.”
Cicilline will succeed Shirley Franklin, the mayor of Atlanta, who last month was elected the NDCM’s president. The nationwide group brings together Democratic mayors to develop, recommend and enact public policy, and to advocate for economic development.
