Acquisition of Bacou cleared

SMITHFIELD – The acquisition of Bacou USA by Christian Dalloz SA of Paris has been approved by the U.S. Department of Justice.

The acquisition is expected to be completed in September, The Providence Journal reported. Dalloz is also acquiring Bacou USA’s majority stockholder, Bacou SA of Paris.

The resultant company, to be called Bacou-Dalloz SA, reportedly will be the world’s largest producer of safety equipment.

Bacou USA employs nearly 400 people in Rhode Island, 100 in Massachusetts and another 100 in Connecticut, making protective eyeware products at its Uvex subsidiary. The New England operations are not expected to be affected by the pending acquisition.
