PROVIDENCE – Retail gasoline prices in Rhode Island have declined for the fourth straight week, to 16 cents below its average price a month ago, according to AAA Southern New England.

In its Aug. 14 survey, AAA reported an average price of $2.819 per gallon for regular, unleaded, self-serve gas, a drop of 5 cents from last week’s price of $2.869 per gallon. A year ago, the local average was $3.089 per gallon

Nationwide, the average price for self-serve regular declined to $2.769, 5 cents per gallon below the local average.

The latest AAA survey of Rhode Island gas stations found self-serve prices for unleaded regular ranged from $2.699 to $2.909 per gallon, a spread of 21 cents per gallon. The nonprofit auto club found even wider ranges for other grades of fuel.

Average self-serve prices in Rhode Island this week were $3.289 per gallon for diesel, $3.109 for mid-grade unleaded and to $3.249 for premium unleaded gasoline.
