Nathaniel Ginsburg has been promoted to partner at Providence-based Brewster Thornton Group Architects. Prior to becoming partner, he grew the firm’s educational renovation experience, overseeing more than $14 million of construction and contributing quality design in a wide range of residential and institutional projects. He is a graduate of the Harvard University Graduate School of Design in Cambridge, Mass.
PBN: When did you join BTGA?
GINSBURG: I joined Mary Brewster and Barbara Thornton in November 2002 after leaving the Boston area in search of a stronger sense of community in Providence.

PBN: What kinds of projects have you overseen?
GINSBURG: I have overseen institutional, residential and restoration projects; basically all of the project types that BTGA practices. I brought a decade of institutional experience to the firm, and I’ve developed my residential skills with BTGA.
PBN: What has been your most challenging project and why?
GINSBURG: Each project has its own unique challenges, but the one that stands out is the URI College of Nursing Student Commons. With a very tight budget, a short construction period, and an odd-shaped space in an existing building, we needed to satisfy the requirements of students, facility and staff. Through a collaborative design process and work with a dedicated owner and construction team, we were able to create a jewel that has become an asset to the Nursing College.
PBN: What responsibilities are you taking on as partner?
GINSBURG: As a partner, I will be developing our public safety practice, working on our office document standards and mentoring the younger staff. Recently I have begun an involvement with the Emerging Professionals Committee of the RI-AIA to broaden my mentoring efforts.
