The state, the John H. Chafee Center for International Business and the U.S. Department of Commerce have announced a trade mission to England and Scotland for September. Many companies go on these on these missions, with some of them saying that the trips open up new markets for their products and services. But the number of companies that go on the missions is relatively small, so the benefits are not likely to affect a large segment of Rhode Island’s economy. So the question is: Are trade missions something the state should be spending time and money supporting?
