PROVIDENCE – In its annual celebration of employees who give back to the community, Blue Cross & Blue Shield of Rhode Island named Stephanie Vito its 2017 BlueAngel of the Year, according to a Dec. 18 release by the company.
Vito, a Cranston resident and team leader in the health care company’s corporate affairs division, chose to donate $500 from BCBSRI to Children’s Friend – a Providence-based youth social services nonprofit organization.

Carolyn Belisle, BCBSRI managing director of community relations, said Vito is actively involved with multiple BCBSRI philanthropic initiatives including those linked with the Confetti Foundation, Birthday Wishes and the Rhode Island Blood Center.
In a statement, Belisle said: “This year, on top of maintaining her volunteerism with these organizations, she served as a Blue across Rhode Island project captain for a playground revamp through LISC at Children’s Friend in Providence.”
Now in its 16th year, the BlueAngel program recognizes specific BCBSRI employees’ commitment to the Rhode Island community. Each year nominations are submitted by the company’s workforce, which later votes for a winner. In 2017, BCBSRI employees contributed approximately 8,000 volunteer hours to serving organizations across Rhode Island.
