Belo names new president, ends monthly reports

DALLAS – Belo Corp. (NYSE: BLC), parent of The Providence Journal Co. and other media firms, today announced that Dunia A. Shive, 46, will serve as its president and chief operating officer, effective immediately. She will continue to report to Robert W. Decherd, 55, the company’s chairman and CEO, who had held the title of president since 1994.

Also today, Donald F. “Skip” Cass Jr., 41, was named to oversee Belo’s enterprise-wide Internet and business development activities, as executive vice president, and Wesley A. “Wes” Jackson, 36, was promoted to president and general manager of Belo Interactive Media, reporting to Cass.

The promotions were approved by Belo’s board of directors at its regular meeting today.

In a separate announcement today, Belo said it is ending its practice of providing monthly revenue and statistical reports. “Our interests are in informing our shareholders of meaningful financial patterns,” Dechard said. “Increasingly, a single month’s revenue performance is not a reliable indicator.”
