Block Island Times: sea2shore wind farm transmission cable exposed near shore

NEW SHOREHAM – The sea2shore transmission cable for the Block Island Wind Farm project, which was installed by National Grid Rhode Island, is exposed in shallow water about 25 feet from Town Beach at low tide, the Block Island Times reported Wednesday.

The Block Island Power Company said that the cable, which has 34,500 volts running through it, is armored and insulted. The Coastal Resources Management Council said it is meeting with National Grid to discuss solutions to the issue Thursday.
