Attracting new corporate sponsors such as Microsoft and the United Parcel Service to this year’s Northeast Women In Business Conference is a sign of the event’s growing success, according to organizer Toby Nadler.
The fourth such conference was held at the Rhode Island Convention Center, Saturday, Nov. 14, and drew about 500 attendees, said Nadler, who is president of Ashton St. John Associates Inc., which produces the conference. It has been one of the largest networking events targeted at women in the region and has even garnered attention from Hillary Clinton, who two years ago made a phone call in a show of support for the second conference.

Nadler also used the event to promote the new Northeast Women-In-Business Association, designed for year-round networking opportunities, and its Web site: www.women-in-busines.org.
Besides drawing new corporate sponsors this year, the conference also nearly doubled the number of exhibitors it had over last year with about 55 companies. Several local corporations returned as sponsors, including Blue Cross & Blue Shield of R.I. and Gilbane Building Co.
It’s good news “when companies like that realize the importance of reaching women in decision-making positions,” Nadler said. “Certainly that they want to make a statement and align themselves in a leadership position, just as Pepsi get its machines in dormitories. These companies are recognizing the potential.”
