CCRI to host observatory open house in July

WARWICK – The Community College of Rhode Island will open the Margaret M. Jacoby Observatory at the Knight Campus in Warwick for an open house on July 8, the college announced on Friday. The event will be held from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.

Visitors will be given a constellation tour and the tour will identify points of interest in the night sky such as constellations, stars and sometimes planets.

The observatory was constructed in 1978 under the instruction of Jacoby, for whom the observatory is named. She served as professor emeritus in the CCRI Physics department.

The observatory recently underwent upgrades, including new bench seating for visitors, a new control desk and work station.
