Commuters don’t flock to T.F. Green train

WARWICK – The Massachusetts Bay Transportation Authority’s weekday service to T.F. Green Airport is not attracting the expected ridership.
Four months after beginning to extend its service to the airport in a limited way, the MBTA says that about 100 people are riding the trains, which are timed to transport commuters, according to the Associated Press.
R.I. Airport Corporation President and CEO Kevin Dillon did not seem concerned with the slow start to the service, when he spoke with Providence Business News in January.
“What we’re seeing is there’s a good level of demand, and I fully expect that demand to continue to grow, and grow quite a bit,” he said at the time.
MBTA trains stop 11 times a day at the new, $267 million Interlink facility at T.F. Green, six leaving Warwick and five delivering passengers to the intermodal facility.
More commuters are expected once another station is completed south of the airport in North Kingstown later this year, as well as if a projected office, retail and hotel project is completed next to the station.

  1. What do you expect? Non one is promoting the service.
I suggest they go to South Station and give out flyers telling people what a great area this it to live in and maybe do some advertising in the Metro…
This type of change does not just happen… you have to MAKE it happen!

  2. I travel to Boston about once per week on business. I choose to drive to the Route 128 station because it has the most convenient arrival and departure times. With the present schedule, a round trip to Boston would be a 13-hour day for me – using Rte. 128 cuts it down to a 10-hour day. I’ll be happy to use the TF Green train and the Wickford train once more round-trips are added.
