WEST WARWICK – Cox Communications Inc., Rhode Island’s dominant cable company, plans to introduce new versions of its interactive on-screen content guides later this year, according to Cable Digital News.
Steve Necessary, Cox’s vice president of video product development and support, told a recent industry gathering that the new system will use rotating “cards” to display and organize information, the Web site reported. The system also will have an integrated search capability and will be optimized for high-definition television sets, Necessary said.
The new interactive program guide is scheduled to be released in the fourth quarter, according to Cable Digital News’ report.
Privately-held Cox, known for keeping a tight lid on its plans, is revealing few other details about the new software. But the report said Necessary emphasized the importance of helping customers access and manage the growing amount of content available through their cable subscriptions.
