CPAs ready to help with election finances

PROVIDENCE – The Rhode Island Society of Certified Public Accountants says its members are offering to volunteer their time to help political candidates file campaign finance reports in an effort to maintain transparent campaign during the hectic election season.
“At a time of great challenge for the state we all love, it’s more important than ever that we have fair and competitive elections with good candidates,” said Bob Mancini, executive director of the RISCPA. “Volunteering our time to help candidates with campaign finance reporting is one way CPAs can be part of the solution for Rhode Island.”
RISCPA has notified the R.I. Board of Elections and the political parties of the availability of volunteers to help with reports. The society said CPAs are ready to meet with candidates or campaign treasurers to help complete their Rhode Island campaign contribution and expenditure reports in compliance with state law.
“If there are committed Rhode Islanders who are considering running for office but are intimidated by the paperwork, we hope this service will make it easier for them to get involved,” said Mancini.
