If you need a lift, forget the boring rideshare apps.
Newport-based Coastal Cruisers was launched in June and is now busy taking tourists and locals on demand to the city’s seaside hot spots in all-electric shuttles.
“Newport needed a flexible, greener transportation solution,” said co-owner Rebecca Campbell, who along with her son and co-owner, Braeden, is building upon the success of car service Freedom Express, which she founded earlier this year.
Using a “wave-and-ride” transportation model, Coastal Cruisers can accommodate special events, hourly bookings and has partnered with local hotels to create a comprehensive and swift transportation option.
Braeden Campbell said the company’s first summer exceeded expectations, with a 70% to 80% customer retention rate.
“The response from locals and tourists has been incredible,” he said.
Within a month, the Cambells secured partnerships with “The Newport Show” and the insurance outfit Newport Group RI, which has boosted visibility.
They are also developing a mobile app allowing users to book rides, track vehicles, view pricing and access membership perks, which is expected to launch by the end of the season. n
