
PROVIDENCE – Doris De Los Santos, director of supplier diversity at Blue Cross & Blue Shield of Rhode Island, has been named the company’s 2023 BlueAngel of the Year.
De Los Santos, who was born and raised in the Dominican Republic and lives in Providence, was nominated by her peers in recognition of her dedication to the company’s commitment to community investment. In 2023, she logged 174 volunteer hours helping 29 different nonprofit organizations. She was also a team captain in the company’s Gobble Games fundraiser, helping Blue Cross donate more than $20,000 to the Rhode Island Community Food Bank.

“Doris takes volunteering to the next level. Her energy is boundless and commitment unwavering,” said Carolyn Belisle, Blue Cross managing director of corporate social responsibility. “She leads with her heart and is a wonderful example of our BlueAngel culture of belonging and community service and investment.”
The BlueAngel of the Year program began in 2001 to honor employees who make a difference in their communities through participating in the BlueAngel Community Investment Program.
In addition to naming De Los Santos the 2023 BlueAngel of the Year, Blue Cross donated $500 to a nonprofit of her choice, which was Community MusicWorks, in her honor.
De Los Santos serves on the company’s BlueAngel Advisory Council, a group of associates from across the organization who volunteer to build community investment initiatives. She is also on the company’s Diversity Council, which works to promote diversity, inclusion and cultural competence at Blue Cross.
Among the organizations De Los Santos is involved with are Roger Williams University, Family Service of Rhode Island, Rhode Island Parent Information Network, Community MusicWorks, and she is a member of the 2023-24 cohort of the Rhode Island Foundation’s Equity Leadership Initiative.
