The Rhode Island Community Food Bank recently received a tractor-trailer load of donated food from North Kingstown-based Ocean State Job Lot, its largest product donor in the state. Among the donated items were some of the Food Bank’s most nutritious items, including peanut butter, tomato products, tuna fish, clam chowder, beans and breakfast cereal.
“Ocean State Job Lot continues to be deeply committed to fighting hunger in our state,” said company owner Alan Perlman. “The summer is a very difficult time for the Food Bank. With thousands of children out of school and not able to participate in the federal breakfast and lunch programs, the Food Bank experiences an increase in need. We’re happy to help provide products that are highly nutritious and among the Food Bank’s most desirable items.”
