SOUTH KINGSTOWN – Droners LLC has been acquired by PrecisionHawk Inc., a drone technology company based in Raleigh, N.C.
Droners runs Droners.io, a website that connects professional drone pilots with clients seeking aerial photography or videography services for weddings, social events, construction or real estate surveying, and more.
PrecisionHawk said Droners.io and AirVid, a Canadian company it acquired, will be merged under the Droners.io platform.
Dave Brown, CEO and founder of Droners, will manage the pilot-network development team for PrecisionHawk. Amy Elsbecker, Droners customer service operations specialist, will also be maintained on staff. The two will work remotely from Rhode Island but the headquarters of the company will be relocated to Raleigh.
“We believe that a drone pilot network is one of the fundamental building blocks of a successful drone ecosystem,” said Brown in a statement. “We’re excited to continue our mission with PrecisionHawk and support the growth of the drone pilot economy.”
PrecisionHawk declined to provide details of the transaction.
Droners was a finalist in the 2016 “Get Started RI” business pitch competition.
