Enviro-services firm targets tech waste

NORTH PROVIDENCE – The for-profit environmental-services group Reduce My Eco Footprint launched its free Techie Waste recycling service on Oct. 7.
The recycling service, currently offered throughout Rhode Island, offers businesses a Techie Waste recycle bin (18 inches x 18 inches x 30 inches). When the bin gets filled, you call a toll-free number for free collection.
“Techie waste,” a subset of electronic waste, includes cell phones, PDAs, printer cartridges, toner, MP3 players, pagers, handheld games, digital cameras and other small electronics.
“Because these gadgets are so small, most of them end up in the trash. Around 200 million cell phones and 300 million to 500 million print cartridges end up in landfills every year,” said Steve Smith, executive director of Reduce My Eco Footprint.
Reduce My Eco Footprint develops recycling programs for companies, residential property management, hotels, colleges and schools around Rhode Island. &#8226
