The Economic Policy Council is obviously alive and active, setting an agenda that could develop the framework for Rhode Island’s economic development into the early part of the next century.

The council’s agenda sets out an aggressive program that explores Rhode Island’s current position as it relates to the regional, national and global economies, with a goal of developing programs so Rhode Island can compete in each of these arenas.

For this agenda to turn into viable programs, it will take a continued aggressive approach on the part of the council, a considerable public education program, clear identification of the different missions of the council and Economic Development Corporation, and legislative support.

We are encouraged by what we see at first glance, hopeful of a continuing public discussion of the various issues, and excited about the economic development possibilities contained even in the council’s work plan.
