Exeter plans Borderlands workshop

EXETER – Exeter has scheduled a public workshop for Oct. 29 as part of the Borderlands Project, an ongoing study of community planning for municipalities along the border between Rhode Island and Connecticut.
Attendees will “help shape how the community might look in the future if it continues to grow under the current comprehensive plan and land-use regulations,” according to information provided by Susan Westa, the project coordinator.
In October 2007, two towns – Exeter and Killingly, Conn. – were chosen as the study areas for the 18-month, $200,000 study.
At the workshop later this month, town planners will discuss information gathered through focus groups, an online community survey and a community meeting in June.
The workshop will be held at Metcalf Elementary School from 5:30 p.m. to 9 p.m.
Announced in 2003, the Borderlands Project aims to study planning for the 20 municipalities along the Rhode Island-Connecticut border. It is sponsored by The Nature Conservancy and others and is supported by the Orton Family Foundation. For additional information, visit www.borderlandsproject.org.
