NEWPORT – Hilary Fagan, the former president and chief operating officer of R.I. Commerce Corp., has been named executive director of the Newport Restoration Foundation. Fagan will assume the role on March 9. She was selected by the foundation’s board of directors following a national search. In August 2024 the foundation’s leadership team of Alyssa Lozupone, Gina Tangorra and Amy Elizabeth Winsor took over operations after the contract of then-President and Director Franklin D. Vagnone was not renewed. It was not immediately clear whether Fagan is succeeding that leadership team. Representatives from the foundation did not immediately respond to a request for comment. “We are thrilled to welcome Hilary to the Newport Restoration Foundation,” said Edith McBean, president of the foundation’s board of directors. “Hilary’s background in promoting Rhode Island’s economy, combined with her financial expertise, makes her the ideal person to guide NRF as we face new challenges, including the impact of sea-level rise on our historic neighborhoods.” Fagan stepped down as president and chief operating officer of R.I. Commerce Corp. on Dec. 2, 2022. She currently manages key strategic accounts for National Grid and previously held roles at CBRE and the Lincoln School in Providence. Before joining R.I. Commerce, Fagan was a director in the corporate client group with NASDAQ in Washington, D.C. She also was a research sales associate at Morgan Stanley in New York. “I am honored to join the Newport Restoration Foundation, an organization that has been part of the fabric of my hometown since 1968,” states Fagan. “NRF is a leader in preserving the unique sense of place that makes Newport special. I look forward to working with the board and staff to ensure that our historic homes remain vibrant community assets that evoke pride in Newporters. It is an exciting time to explore how historic preservation can drive economic vitality and community resilience.”
