Federal investigators running Logan outpost

BOSTON – Federal investigators are running a terrorism intelligence outpost at Boston Logan International Airport, said Mass. Port Authority Director of Aviation Edward Freni.
The annex, which houses eight agencies, is the first to be set up at a U.S. airport, Freni said at a news conference today in Boston. Federal agencies at the site, which opened in July, include the Federal Bureau of Investigation, the Transportation Security Administration and the Federal Air Marshal Service.
Ten al-Qaeda terrorists cleared security checkpoints at Logan the morning of Sept. 11, 2001, before commandeering a pair of planes into the World Trade Center in New York.
“Because of this, we have always felt a special urgency to be at the forefront of aviation security,” Freni said.
The Mass. Port Authority, the Mass. State Police and the Boston Police Department also have employees at the outpost. &#8226
