Fidelity honored by Audubon Society

SMITHFIELD – Fidelity Investments’ Smithfield campus was honored as Business of the Year by the Audubon Society of Rhode Island on Tuesday.

Audubon recognized John Muggeridge, vice president of public affairs, for his leadership “in applying environmentally sound practices in a thriving community business” at its annual meeting.

The three buildings on the Smithfield campus have achieved either gold or silver status Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design Standard – the internationally recognized green building certification system.

When it was built, Fidelity kept most of the campus’s natural forest and designed the lighting for both efficiency and to avoid night light pollution.

Audubon also recognized Fidelity staff for participating in environmental education activities, joining the International Coastal Cleanup on the Blackstone River and Audubon’s annual butterfly survey. Staff also serve on the board of the Woonasquatucket River Watershed Council, it said.

“We’re gratified to be recognized for our ongoing commitment to environmental stewardship. Through various initiatives […] we strive to make a positive impact on our surroundings and in the process, maintain a pleasant and ‘green’ workplace for our associates,” said Muggeridge.
