PROVIDENCE – R.I. First Lady Suzanne Carcieri and other female volunteers are helping build a Habitat for Humanity home as part of First Families Building Homes Across America, a 50-state program.

First Families, a volunteer program for governors, their spouses and other local and statewide leaders, aids Habitat for Humanity in construction of new Women Build homes. The family in need works side by side with all volunteers.

The new Women Build home is located at 815 Potters Avenue and is being built with future Habitat homeowner Sheila White. White is a single mother of five children, ages 9 to 21, and the grandmother of one. Four of her children will be living in the home with White.

“Over the next six months, we will see a small army of volunteers working side-by-side with a local family to create a home,” said Carcieri. “This is the kind of work that has an impact on the need for decent, affordable housing.” •
