Anthony M. Acosta and Marcus Hagans work for an international technology company and became convinced of a void in media reports on positive, community-focused efforts of companies.
“It seems like there was a vacancy in positive news … and a void specifically in the business sector. It was being overshadowed by negative light,” said Acosta.
In January, the pair co-founded The Banyan Leaf Report – Acosta as CEO, Hagans as president – a media platform highlighting examples of positive corporate impact on the communities housing and supporting them.
The company is based out of Cumberland and relies heavily on print readers. But, that’s “the tip of the iceberg” said Acosta, who plans to add podcasts and video content through a YouTube channel in the coming months.
For now, Acosta and Hagans write all The Banyan Leaf Report content and have seen readership throughout the U.S. – in Texas, Maryland and Colorado – as well as Spain.
“Distance is what you make of it,” said Hagans. “We don’t want to focus on just two cities; we want to [be] as big as we can.”
