NEWPORT – A home that originally was built as a gardener’s cottage for the Bois Dore chateau and estate in Newport has sold for $1.99 million, according to Hogan Associates, whose agents represented both buyer and seller.

The house at 128 Webster Street was built in 1927, one of three homes on the estate for the live-in help. The cottages were later subdivided and sold as single-family homes, according to Hogan Associates.

The seller, Tesa Van Munching, had purchased the cottage in 2006 and later expanded and restored the home with the assistance of architect Paul Weber. A first-floor addition now makes the kitchen a large, open space. And an elegant stone patio was installed outside, transitioning to a walled backyard.

The buyers are Richard and Leslie King. The sale was closed on Dec. 1.
