PROVIDENCE – The average price of self-serve, regular unleaded gasoline in Rhode Island increased 3 cents this week to $2.86 per gallon, 3 cents lower than the national average of $2.89 per gallon and 1 cent higher than prices at this time last year, according to AAA Northeast Monday.
Prices in the Ocean State ranged 30 cents from $2.69 to $2.99 per gallon.

“While fuel demand remains robust, gasoline inventories built for the first time since early February and contributed to more-modest increases than we saw the week before when prices were up double digits,” stated AAA Northeast Senior Vice President of Public and Government Affairs Lloyd Albert.
- Midgrade gas averaged $3.07 per gallon, ranging from $2.85 to $3.19 per gallon
- Premium gas averaged $3.27, ranging from $3.05 to $3.39 per gallon
- Diesel fuel averaged $3.11, ranging from $2.99 to $3.45 per gallon
In Massachusetts, the average price of regular gas increased 5 cents to $2.84 per gallon, 5 cents lower than the national average and 8 cents higher year over year. Prices ranged 53 cents from $2.62 per gallon to $3.15 per gallon.
- Midgrade gas averaged $2.99 this week, ranging from $2.79 to $3.29 per gallon
- Premium gas averaged $3.17, ranging from $2.93 to $3.49 per gallon
- Diesel fuel averaged $311 this week, ranging from $2.89 to $3.49 per gallon
