PROVIDENCE – The average price of self-serve, regular unleaded gasoline in Rhode Island declined 2 cents this week to $2.84 per gallon, 2 cents higher than the national average and 15 cent less than prices at this time last year, according to AAA Northeast Tuesday.
Prices in Rhode Island ranged 30 cents from $2.69 to $2.99 per gallon.

- Midgrade gas averaged $3.15 per gallon, ranging from $3.04 to $3.28 per gallon.
- Premium gas averaged $3.36 per gallon, ranging from $3.24 to $3.48 per gallon.
- Diesel fuel averaged $3.12 per gallon, ranging from $2.95 to $3.45 per gallon.
“Gas prices have declined, on average, by at least a nickel for the majority of the country since the beginning of May and that’s a trend motorists can expect to continue into early June,” AAA Northeast Senior Vice President of Public and Government Affairs Lloyd Albert said in a statement. “Stable crude oil prices are helping to push prices down at the pump despite tight domestic gasoline supply and robust demand. A bump in demand could push prices higher, but only by a few cents.”
In Massachusetts, the average price of regular gas declined 2 cents this week to average $2.78 per gallon, 4 cents lower than the national average and 14 cents lower than prices at this time last year.
Gas prices in the Bay State ranged 44 cents from $2.61 to $3.05 per gallon.
