PROVIDENCE – The average price of self-serve, regular unleaded gasoline in Rhode Island declined 4 cents this week to $2.52 per gallon, 15 cents higher than the national average of $2.37 per gallon and level with prices one year prior, according to AAA Northeast Monday.
Prices ranged 36 cents, ranging from $2.33 to $2.69 per gallon.

“The national average is a nickel less than last week, 26 cents less than last month and 6 cents less than a year ago,” stated Lloyd Albert, AAA Northeast senior vice president of public and government affairs. “With gasoline production on the high side – 10 million barrels per day – amid low seasonal demand, motorists can expect gas prices to continue declining through year-end.”
- Midgrade gas averaged $2.75 per gallon, ranging from $2.55 to $2.91 per gallon
- Premium gas averaged $2.95 per gallon, ranging from $2.75 to $3.11 per gallon
- Diesel fuel averaged $3.12 per gallon, ranging from $2.89 to $3.45 per gallon
In Massachusetts, the average price of regular gas declined 3 cents to $2.59 per gallon, 22 cents higher than the national average and 13 cents higher than at this time last year.
The price of regular gas ranged 66 cents in Massachusetts, from $2.39 to $3.05 per gallon.
- Midgrade gas in Massachusetts averaged $2.85 per gallon, ranging from $2.61 to $3.19 per gallon
- Premium gas averaged $3.03 per gallon, ranging from $2.81 to $3.39 per gallon
- Diesel fuel averaged $3.13 per gallon, ranging from $2.89 to $3.39 per gallon
