Maddie and Ross Levine met at the gym. Both were steeped in the competitive fighting world for years – he was a world champion kickboxer, while she was a trained amateur kickboxer and spent her days in front of a microphone on Cat Country 98.1 and Fun 107, as well as an MMA commentator.
“Martial arts changed my life for the better,” she said.
Now retired from kickboxing competition, Ross Levine, the founder of Turbo Sports Performance, said all his focus is aimed at getting the North Kingstown-based Turbo Kickboxing Academy, which opened in April, on par with the couple’s vision of creating a community-based studio servicing anyone, regardless of age or skill level. Beyond self-defense training, the studio offers improved physical and mental well-being.
Turbo’s classes are tailored to individuals’ abilities with cardio-based sessions designed to provide a full-body workout, whether you’re a novice or someone who’s no stranger to the octagon.
“A lot of people have the wrong idea about kickboxing,” Maddie Levine said. “Whether you are 6 or 60, you have a place on our mat. Our goal is to be the top kickboxing gym in the area, and we plan to stick around for quite some time.”
